If you are looking at this Settlers of Catan Cities and Knights Expansion Set, then chances are you already own the Settlers of Catan Base Set. The Cities and Knights is an expansion on the original Settlers of Catan Base set, so you'll need to have that.

The Settlers of Catan Cities and Knights expansion set is a great addition to your original Settlers of Catan base set. It adds some very unique and exciting new aspects to the gameplay of Settlers of Catan and is a very popular expansion set. Probably the most recognizable gameplay addition of Cities and Knights is the barbarian attacks. Barbarian attacks occur to the board as a whole and certain players, or all the players, will be vulnerable to the invasion. It's a great variable.

There are many more additions to the standard gameplay of the original Settlers of Catan, and they are all interesting in their own right. The Settlers of Catan Cities and Knights Expansion Set is a fun and unique addition.

If you want to play the Cities and Knights Expansion version with 5 to 6 players, you'll need to also have the Cities and Knights 5-6 players expansion set.
